Pre-K students and a grown up will create dynamic art based on the week’s theme. Play-based projects and sensory activities will include multiple steps and focus on experimentation as well as language and fine motor development. This class is in-person and takes place at Artsmiths of Pittsburgh 329 E. Main Street, Carnegie, PA.

Gnome Home Family Workshop

Ages 3 and up with an adult
Saturday, October 1 | 2pm – 4pm

Sculpt a unique dwelling for a fairy or gnome using air dry clay and embellish it with a variety of natural and art materials. For Ages 3 and up. Price per child. Each child or sibling group must be accompanied by an adult. Casual activities will be available for younger, non- participating children. This class is in-person and takes place at Artsmiths of Pittsburgh 329 E. Main Street, Carnegie, PA.

Cryptids & Other Made Up Things Camp

Wednesday, October 5 | 9am – 12pm

Invent your very own monster and bring it to life through comics, paintings and sculptures of monster proportions. Insert kaiju into unexpected places, construct mixed-up creatures and become inspired by classic creatures of the big screen, professional artwork and your own imagination. This class is in-person and takes place at Artsmiths of Pittsburgh 329 E. Main Street, Carnegie, PA.

Story Saturdays: What Do You Do With a Box?

Join us in the Ailsa Mellon Bruce Decorative Arts and Design galleries for an in-person story time with curatorial assistant Alyssa Velazquez reading What to Do with a Box? by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Chris Sheban, followed by an art-making activity led by Jena Schieb. For children 12 and under. This reading is made possible by The Creative Company.

Elementary Aged Children
Saturday, October 15 | 11am – 12pm

Calling all witches, warlocks and Mad Scientists! Join Jena Scheib of the Artsmiths of Pittsburgh and concoct a bubbling brew, transcribe an incantation or configure a creature from your imagination. Combine a variety of creative materials and methods with principles of engineering and science in our Monster Lab. This program is funded by a Gismondi VITAL grant. . All materials are provided and the program is free. This program takes place in-person at Andrew Carnegie Free Library, 300 Beechwood Ave, Carnegie PA.

Halloween Edition: STEAM with Miss Jena
@ Mt. Lebanon Public Library

Create spectacular celestial signs, concoct bubbling potions and transform recycled papers in a personal grimoire in this Halloween inspired art experience. This program is in-person and takes place at Mt. Lebanon Public Library. All materials are provided. Free.

Portraits

3 Fridays, Oct 7 – 21 | 12:30pm – 2:30pm

Join resident artist Jena Schieb for a three-part exploration of Portrait Drawing (10/7, 10/14 and 10/21). Learn to construct the human face and form with instruction of anatomy and proportion. Create a specific mood and allude to narrative in each artwork using color and style. We will experiment with various readily available materials to learn the best properties of each.  All supplies will be provided. $5 suggested donation. Registration required. Experimental Watercolor
@ Artsmiths of Pittsburgh

2 Wednesdays, November 9 & 16 1 | 6pm – 8pm

Discover the amazing properties of watercolor paint through experimentation. Use additives and vary application to create interesting effects like resists, blooms and crystallization. Utilize collaboration and art games to minimize artist block and explore techniques that enhance realistic interpretations and abstractions. This class is in-person and takes place at Artsmiths of Pittsburgh 329 E. Main Street, Carnegie, PA.
